You’ll see a photo of north Okaloosa County’s first baby of 2009 on the front page of the Jan. 7 print edition of the Crestview News Bulletin.
You won’t find the baby’s last name.
We heeded a North Okaloosa Medical Center request to withhold last names of patients from articles.
It wasn’t an NOMC idea; it was a directive from the local hospital’s parent company.
Has the world really come to this? Have we really come to the point where the Baby New Year is a security or litigation risk?
I’m not criticizing the NOMC. They’re just following orders.
I’m not even criticizing the NOMC’s parent company. Its lawyers likely caught wind of some case where the release of a patient’s last name was grounds for some lawsuit, and took appropriate actions.
I’m just decrying the state of a world where the Baby New Year is a security or litigation risk.
What’s the most disturbing example of our world gone nuts? This story? The story about the California Supreme Court clearing the way for lawsuits against Good Samaritans? Another story?
Post your examples below.
